Hey Families!
It has been a super fun and busy
week! Here are a few highlights:
Reach for Reading: We were
excited to start unit 3 with a new big question: Why learn about other places?
Students will get to enjoy cool book club books about some amazing places! The
kids are also responsible for picking an independent reading book of their
choice to read for the remainder of unit 3. They will use this book of their
choice to complete a fun book report after unit 3. They will all sign a pledge
on Monday that states the book they choose! This pledge will also come home for
a parent signature.
Writing: We have moved on
from writing realistic fiction stories to persuasive writing. Our final papers
will be in an essay format. The kiddos already learned how to write an essay
with a thesis statement, reasons and evidence! They rocked! We are working on
developing deeper ideas for their future essays. Mrs. Larkin even came in and
taught us a strategy with a catchy song that helps us stick with an idea for a
long time! Maybe your child will sing the song to you! J
Word Work: Morphology has
been an exciting new journey! We are still adjusting our routine as we figure
out what works well. Starting next week, students will bring home their
morphology packet on Mondays only. They will be writing words that include the
two new morphemes for the week. We will do our first sentence dictation next
Friday. This is the new assessment piece that sort of replaced the spelling
tests. J I am truly amazed at
how I am already seeing the students connect to how this will help them as a
reader and speller. It’s amazing to “unlock” the code of the english language. It’s
been SO fun to watch!!
